In the December 22, 2016 post (“Little Village Fatal Pedestrian Accident“) a fatal pedestrian accident that happened in Chicago was summarized. The accident involved a woman (Telesfora Escamilla, 84, of Chicago) being fatally struck by a delivery truck with an Amazon logo. One notable aspect of the accident was that it occurred as Telesfora Escamilla was walking in a crosswalk.
Recently, a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County regarding the fatal accident. Among the defendants listed is Amazon.com and the truck’s driver, Valdimar C. Gray, 29, of Chicago.
The lawsuit is discussed in a number of media sources. An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of January 4, 2017, titled “Son of elderly woman fatally struck by delivery truck sues Amazon“:
Gray was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving an uninsured vehicle, and ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign, failure to yield to a pedestrian in an intersection and failure to carry a driver’s license, police said.
He had been making deliveries for Amazon as an employee of Inpax Shipping Solutions, which is listed as another defendant in the wrongful death suit.
Additional details and possible updates concerning this Cook County Circuit Court wrongful death lawsuit can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Sun-Times article mentioned above, as well as the January 4 CBS Chicago article titled “Son Of Elderly Woman Fatally Hit By Delivery Truck Sues Amazon.”
