Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Regarding Fatal July 1 Chicago Bicycle Accident

The July 1, 2016 post (“Fatal Bicycle Accident In Chicago’s Avondale Neighborhood“) summarized a truck-bicycle accident that led to the death of Virginia Murray, 25, of Chicago.  At the time of the accident, she was riding a Divvy bike when she was struck by a truck as both Murray and the truck driver attempted to turn from Sacramento Avenue onto Belmont Avenue.

As discussed on the “Chicago Bicycling Accidents” page, there are many reasons that bicycle accidents occur in Chicago.  As well, common types of such accidents are discussed, as well as what one should do if one is in a bicycle accident.

As seen on many Chicago bicycle accidents that are summarized on this site (that are found in the “Bicycling Accidents” category), there is a broad range of injuries resulting from such accidents.  As well, the severity of such injuries vary, with some – such as those seen in the July 1 accident mentioned above – being fatal in nature.

On Monday (August 1, 2016) it was announced that the parents of Virginia Murray have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck’s driver (Cosmin A. Radu) as well as his employer (A&B Flooring Supplies, Inc.)  The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County.

An excerpt from the August 1, 2016 Chicago Tribune article (with video) titled “Family of Divvy rider killed in crash sues truck driver, company“:

The suit claims that Radu was negligent in failing to keep a proper lookout for bicyclists on the roadway, failing to yield the right of way and failing to reduce speed.

Additional details regarding this wrongful death lawsuit can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Tribune article mentioned above as well as the August 1 dnainfo.com article titled “Fatal Divvy Crash Victim’s Family Suing Truck Driver, Owner.”
