There was a Chicago-area wrong-way driver accident this morning (September 7, 2013) on Chicago’s Eisenhower Expressway. Two women were declared dead shortly after the accident, and two other people were injured.
The accident happened as a man was driving a minivan westbound in the eastbound Eisenhower lanes, near Harlem Avenue, at approximately 1:50 a.m. The minivan then collided with another vehicle, identified as a Ford, that was carrying three women.
Two of the three women inside the Ford were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where they were pronounced dead. Those two women were identified as
Briana Resto, 19, of Northlake – the driver of the Ford – and Monica Hernandez, 20, of Maywood, a passenger.
A third woman inside the Ford was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn. According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) she was in “serious but stable” condition.
The driver of the minivan was identified as Miguel Rico, 20, of Chicago. According to the Illinois State Police, he has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence.
Rico was taken to Loyola Hospital and treated for injuries considered non-life-threatening.
