There have been a number of recent accidents in the Chicago area in which people have been fatally struck by vehicles. There was another fatal pedestrian accident Tuesday afternoon (April 3, 2018) in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. This accident happened in a parking lot and led to the death of a woman.
According to Chicago Police, the accident happened as a man lost control of his SUV in a parking lot.

Police said a 76-year-old woman and a 96-year-old woman were getting into their car in the parking lot of the strip mall when an 89-year-old man was attempting to park his Chevy Tahoe. While parking, the man had a problem with his gas pedal, police said.
The man lost control of the SUV and it struck several other cars before hitting the women.
The 76-year-old woman, later identified as Delores Sobczak, of Chicago, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment of her accident injuries. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, she was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m.
The 96-year-old woman was also taken to Illinois Masonic for treatment of her accident injuries.

The driver was issued a citation for negligent driving, according to police.
The accident investigation is continuing.
