Two-Vehicle Lyons Crash Leads To Two Fatalities

Vehicle accidents involving “head-on collisions” typically lead to serious accident injuries, and in some cases fatalities.  Such frontal collisions typically subject the vehicle occupants to strong and unnatural forces, which causes various accident injuries which range both in type and severity.

There was a fatal vehicle accident Monday evening (October 9, 2017) in Lyons.  While the cause of the crash and specifics of the two-vehicle collision are not currently publicly available, it does appear as if the crash involved some type of frontal collision between the vehicles.

According to the Village of Lyons, the crash happened at approximately 6:20 p.m. at 44th Place and First Avenue.

An excerpt regarding the crash, seen in the October 10, 2017 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Two men killed, third seriously injured in crash in Lyons” quoting Lyons village spokesman Ray Hanania:

He said a vehicle was southbound on First Avenue attempting to turn left onto 44thwhen it struck another vehicle that was northbound on First. Witnesses said both vehicles were traveling with a green light through the intersection.

The driver and passenger in the first vehicle were killed, Hanania said.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the deceased were identified as William Molthop, 60, of Roselle, and Vincent Neri, 62 of Melrose Park.  They were pronounced dead after being taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

The driver of the vehicle heading northbound on First Street was identified as a 23-year-old man from Berwyn.  He reportedly was seriously injured, and was also taken to Loyola University Medical Center.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the Lyons Police Department and the Illinois State Police.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this fatal vehicle accident can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the article mentioned above as well as the October 10 Chicago Tribune article titled “2 killed in Lyons crash.”
