Two Illinois Pedestrian Accidents Resulting In Serious Injuries

When a person is hit by a vehicle, there are a broad range of accident injuries that can result to the pedestrian.  Many of these injuries are serious in nature, and a substantial percentage lead to fatalities, either immediately or some time after the accident.

On this site posts that summarize pedestrian accidents are found under the “pedestrian accidents” category, and various aspects of pedestrian accidents – including those regarding medical and legal issues –  are discussed on the “Chicago Pedestrian Accidents” page.

Two recent pedestrian accident have happened outside the Chicago area – in Westville (south of Danville) and Forsyth (north of Decatur.)

The accident in Westville happened on Halloween.  In this accident two children – ages 12 and 7 – were struck by a vehicle outside of an event.  An excerpt from the November 1, 2017 News-Gazette article titled “Probe continues after 2 kids hit by car near Westville trunk-or-treat event“:

Sgt. Justin Varvel with Westville police said Wednesday afternoon that he did not have an updated condition report on the 7-year-old who was seriously injured and listed in critical but stable condition at an Urbana hospital after being transferred there Tuesday night. His sister was rushed to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Varvel said the accident happened at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, and although police are still interviewing witnesses and piecing together exactly what happened, it appears the siblings from Westville were attempting to cross Illinois 1 when they were struck by a southbound vehicle.

The accident in Forsyth happened on November 2, and is discussed in the November 2 article titled “One sent to hospital during car vs. pedestrian accident.”  An excerpt from that article:

On 11/2/17 at approximately 8:30pm, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Rt. 51 at the intersection with Barnett Ave. in Forsyth.

Upon arrival deputies located the male pedestrian laying in the ditch on the east side of the northbound lanes of Rt. 51, just south of Barnett Ave. The pedestrian was unresponsive to the deputy and was immediately transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital by Decatur Ambulance Service upon their arrival. Deputies and emergency medical staff on scene described the injuries as life threatening.

An accident reconstruction is being conducted as part of the accident investigation.
