There was a “chain-reaction” car crash Thursday morning (July 20, 2017) on the Edens Expressway in Skokie.
While it is unclear what role – if any – heavy thunderstorms might have played in causing the crash, such storms had been present overnight and in the early morning hours.
According to information provided by the Illinois State Police (ISP), the crash happened shortly before 5:00 a.m. on the inbound Edens Expressway near Church Street in Skokie. At that time, the driver of a southbound 1996 Subaru car lost control on the wet pavement and “spun out.” Another car, a 2004 Volvo, struck the Subaru. A third car, a 2001 Buick, was unable to stop in time, and it struck the Volvo.
An excerpt from the July 20 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “2 drivers hurt in 3-car Edens crash in Skokie“:
The driver of the Subaru, a 25-year-old Wonder Lake man, was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.
The driver of the Volvo, a 68-year-old Skokie man; and the driver of the Buick, a 40-year-old Waukegan man, were taken to Evanston North Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An excerpt regarding the accident, from the July 20 Wilmette Patch article titled “Multi-Car Crash On Edens At Dempster“:
Police said weather conditions are a possible factor in the crash and drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factor and all drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Additional details and possible updates concerning this Edens Expressway crash can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Sun-Times and Patch articles mentioned above.
