Street Race Along Chicago’s Eisenhower Expressway Ends In Serious Accident

A street race along the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) ended in a serious car accident Saturday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:36 p.m. in Berkeley, a western suburb of Chicago.

According to the Illinois State Police, three vehicles were racing in the inbound lanes of I290 when one vehicle lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the median just south of St. Charles Road.

Two passengers in the back seat of that vehicle were ejected when the rear hatch popped open. One of those passengers ejected was then struck by a second car that was involved in the street racing.

Both of the passengers ejected were taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Additionally, the driver, an unidentified female, as well as the front seat passenger, were taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.

A third vehicle involved in the race fled the accident scene, while the second car remained at the scene.
