There have been many car crashes in Chicago and throughout Cook County which have involved stolen vehicles. Drivers of these stolen vehicles often drive at a fast speed, as they may be trying to elude police. As well, they may also be involved in other illegal activities from which they are attempting to flee.
Due to the excessive speeds and other reckless driving that often occurs in these stolen vehicles, drivers often lose control. This loss of vehicle control often leads to crashes, and innocent people are frequently injured or killed.
There was a recent crash in Niles which involved a stolen SUV. The crash involved six vehicles, and because of the crash five people were injured and hospitalized, with the driver of the stolen SUV being treated in intensive care.
The crash is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the November 13, 2018 Niles Herald-Spectator article titled “Driver of stolen SUV believed to have caused 6-vehicle Niles crash remains in intensive care: police.” An excerpt:
Niles Police Sgt. Anthony Scipione said an investigation determined that a maroon Volkswagen SUV, occupied by three teenagers, was traveling north on Oconto when it disobeyed a stop sign and drove into traffic on Oakton Street, hitting a Chrysler 300 that was east on Oakton and causing that car to strike a second vehicle.
The Volkswagen then continued north, hitting two more cars on Oakton Street before flipping onto its side and sliding into a fifth vehicle, Scipione said.
The SUV had been reported stolen from a street in Chicago that same day, Tornabene said, though he was unable to provide the exact location of the theft.
Additional details regarding this Niles crash that involved a stolen vehicle can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the article mentioned above.
