Rollover accidents are especially problematical as they typically lead to serious injuries, including those to the neck and spinal cord, as well as head trauma. As well, many rollover accidents lead to fatalities. One of the reasons that rollover accident injuries are serious, if not life-threatening, is the force with which rollovers occur. This is because rollover accidents are more prone to happen when certain factors are present, including higher speeds. Due to the physics involved, ejections (when a vehicle occupant is fully or partially thrown from the vehicle) often happen during rollover accidents, as those who aren’t wearing seat belts are especially vulnerable.
Recently, there have been a number of Chicago area rollover accidents, some of which have led to serious and fatal injuries.
These recent rollover crashes include:
- A fatal rollover accident on I-57 on Sunday, July 24, 2016. This happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-57 near 99th and Halsted Street. This rollover accident is further described in the July 24, 2016 Chicago Tribune article titled “2 killed in I-57 rollover crash.”
- A rollover accident with an ejection on the Bishop Ford Freeway on July 23, 2016. 10 people were injured during this rollover accident.
