An excerpt concerning the collision, from the April 17, 2020 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Park Manor crash: 2 killed, including 14-year old girl“:

This Park Manor car crash is under investigation by the Chicago Police Department Major Accident Investigation Unit.
Fatal crashes which occur due to a vehicle “running a red light” have been increasing, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. As seen in their August 29, 2020 news release titled “Red Light Running Deaths Hit 10 Year High,” in 2017 939 people were killed in red light running crashes.
The news release gives tips to both drivers as to how avoid running red lights, as well as how other road users can avoid being involved in a collision caused by a driver going through a red light. These other road users include motorists and passengers, as well as bicyclists and pedestrians. According to the statistics seen in the media release, the majority of those killed due to a driver going through a red light are not in the vehicle that ran through the red light.
