There was a fatal pedestrian accident early this morning (January 20, 2016) on the Edens Expressway in Wilmette.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 12:45 a.m. The accident happened after a SUV pulled onto the left shoulder of the northbound Edens near Skokie Boulevard after the SUV ran out of gas. The SUV also had three other occupants.
As a 19-year-old man from the SUV attempted to walk across the lanes on the Edens, he was struck by a van.
The man was taken to Evanston Northshore Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one else in the stalled car was hurt in the crash and the van driver is not expected to be cited, according to WGN TV. The northbound lanes of I-94 were closed for about four hours following the crash, CBS Chicago reports.
