There was a fatal pedestrian accident this morning (October 23, 2015) in Niles.
According to Niles Police, the accident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m., as a man was crossing in a crosswalk in the 8900 block of West Golf Road as he was walking to the Meijer grocery store.
At that time, a Dodge Durango, traveling westbound and through a green light, hit the man in the center lane.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the pedestrian died at the accident scene.
He has been identified as Richard S. Stern, 84, of Niles.

Stern had been crossing the intersection against the pedestrian signal when he was struck, according to police.
