The SUV sustained heavy damage and appeared to be the only vehicle involved in the crash, police said.
Police also said the evidence at the scene indicated the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. Preliminary reports stated the SUV struck a curb and rolled over several times, ejecting Ramirez from the vehicle.
Officers at the scene reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man and the woman who were both taken to Loyola Hospital, police said.
The woman, who is 23 years old, was said to have minor injuries.
The accident is being investigated.
