“Head-on collisions” are among the types of crashes that typically result in serious injuries, and in some cases the injuries are life-threatening in nature. Some of these accidents lead to fatalities.
Many “head-on crashes” have occurred in the Chicago area, and some have happened recently. While the reason for these loss of control accidents vary, some are caused by distracted driving, others are caused by weather conditions (such as icy conditions), while still others are caused by the driver experiencing a loss of consciousness due to a medical condition. Other loss of control accidents can be caused by mechanical failures.
Most “head-on collisions” involve one vehicle crossing the center line, thus entering the opposing lane of traffic. If there is an oncoming vehicle at that time, the frontal collision can occur.
Two recent Illinois “head-on collisions” have recently occurred in Moline (on the morning of February 7, 2018) and La Grange Park on January 15, 2018.
The Moline accident resulted in a fatality as well as serious injuries to vehicle occupants. The accident is discussed in the February 7, 2018 qconline.com article titled “One killed in I-280 accident Monday morning.” As seen in the article, the Illinois State Police said the collision occurred on I-280 near mile marker 17, and involved a 2005 Ford box truck that crossed through the median and struck a Dodge pickup truck. Several people suffered serious injuries, and there was one fatality.
The La Grange Park accident is discussed in the January 15, 2018 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “3 people injured in head-on crash in La Grange Park.” In this accident the “head-on collision” occurred in the afternoon near the intersection of La Grange Road and Jackson Avenue. Three people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment of their accident injuries.
