Because of its nature, street racing and other “high-speed driving” often leads to serious accidents and accompanying injuries. In recent years, there have been many Chicago-area accidents that have involved street racing and drag racing. There are many reasons why such high-speed driving is hazardous, including that the streets in which such racing occurs were not designed for safe driving at high speeds.
There has been a two-car accident in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood (South Side) on Sunday night (April 16, 2017) which may have involved street racing by one or both vehicles.
According to Chicago Police, the accident, which involved a “head-on collision” between two vehicles, happened shortly before midnight as two cars were driving in the 2800 block of South Archer. One westbound car collided with an eastbound car.
An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of April 17, 2017, titled “CFD: 2 injured in Bridgeport crash, may have been street racing“:
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the crash may have been a result of street racing.
One of the drivers have to be extricated from his car. The drivers were taken to Stroger Hospital, were one was said to be in critical condition and one was said to be in serious condition. They were the only occupants in the two cars.
The Chicago Police Department Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
Additional details and possible updates concerning this “head-on collision” can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Sun-Times article mentioned above as well as the April 17 CBS Chicago article (with crash scene photos and a video) titled “Two Injured In Possible Street-Racing Crash In Bridgeport.”
