There was a fatal “wrong-way driver” accident early this morning (December 22, 2014) on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive.
According to Chicago Police, the accident happened at approximately 2:40 a.m. in the 4100 block of South Lake Shore Drive.
The accident happened as a man driving a Nissan Sentra southbound in the northbound lanes swerved to avoid an oncoming car, then sideswiped a Ford Fusion carrying two women. Then, the Nissan Sentra struck another car, a Chevy Impala that had two front-seat occupants and two backseat passengers.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, currently identified only as a 26-year-old man, died after the accident.
Both women in the Ford Fusion refused medical treatment.
The driver of the Chevy Impala, identified as a 23-year-old male driver, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of accident injuries and was said to be in serious-to-critical condition, as was the 21-year-old female front-seat passenger. The back seat occupants were identified as a 22-year-old female, who was taken to Stroger, and 25-year-old male, who refused medical treatment.
This “wrong-way driver” accident remains under investigation.
