There was a fatal vehicle accident on Interstate 55 (I-55) early this morning. One man was killed and others injured. The accident involved three vehicles, including two cars and one semi truck.
The accident happened on I-55 south of Route 126, in Plainfield, Illinois.
According to the Illinois State Police, a man in a car traveling southbound on I-55 near milepost 260 at approximately 1:30 a.m. lost control of his vehicle for some unknown reason. He struck a median wall and came to rest in the left lane. Another driver pulled over to assist the accident victim; shortly thereafter a semi truck in the left lane struck both vehicles.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the median wall was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he later died.
The accident remains under investigation.
