There was a fatal crash early Tuesday (February 13, 2018) on the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) near Midway Airport. The crash led to one person being fatally injured and three other people being seriously injured.
According to information provided by the Illinois State Police, the crash involved a single vehicle, a Toyota SUV.

About 12:25 a.m., a 28-year-old man was driving a beige 2004 Toyota Highlander north on Interstate 55 near Cicero Avenue when he lost control and the SUV crashed into a guardrail, causing it to spin out of control, according to Illinois State Police. Neither the driver or any of the SUV’s six passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the person who died was a passenger identified as Christian D. Barrajas, 22, of Chicago. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Stroger Hospital. As seen in the February 13 wgntv.com article (with video) titled “1 killed, 3 injured in I-55 crash on Cicero ramp” he was the front-seat passenger and he was ejected during the crash.
Among those injured were the driver, a 20-year-old woman and 21-year-old man. They were all taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of their accident injuries, and were in serious condition.

Charges were pending against the driver on Tuesday night, state police said. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
