There was a fatal Chicago pedestrian accident early Sunday (April 8, 2018) morning in the Hollywood Park neighborhood.  The driver of the car that struck the pedestrian was later charged with aggravated DUI causing death.

According to prosecutors, the pedestrian accident occurred at 1:42 a.m., as a 55-year old woman was crossing the street in the 5900 block of North Jersey.  At that time, she was hit by a vehicle.  The pedestrian was identified as Brenda L. Schrader.

An excerpt regarding the driver of the vehicle, identified as Bertha Saaverda-Velazquez, 26, of Chicago, from the April 9, 2018 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Woman charged with DUI in fatal Hollywood Park crash with pedestrian“:

Velazquez had left a birthday party prior to the crash and was driving another person home when she struck Schrader with her vehicle, prosecutors said. The impact caused Schrader’s body to fly onto the hood of Velazquez’s vehicle and smash the windshield.

Brenda Schrader died at the accident scene from her accident injuries.  A subsequent autopsy revealed she died from multiple injuries resulting from the pedestrian accident.
