There was a fatal car accident Monday evening (July 24, 2017) on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.
According to information provided by the Chicago Police Department, preliminary crash investigation findings indicate that the crash happened after a speeding car that was attempting to change lanes crossed the median and crashed into three vehicles.

The crash happened south of Lawrence Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. as a woman driving a Chevrolet tried to change lanes, police said. “Preliminary information indicates speed to be a factor,” police said in a statement.
The driver of the car that crossed the median was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Seven other people were injured during the crash. Of those people, two were in serious-to-critical condition, one was in serious-to-critical condition, and three people were in fair-to-serious condition. These six people were taken to area hospitals for treatment of their accident injuries. One other person was injured but declined to be taken to a hospital.
As a result of the crash, Lake Shore Drive was closed in both directions as police conducted the traffic accident investigation.
