There was a fatal collision between a CTA bus and car early Sunday morning (May 7, 2017) on Chicago’s Near West side. Four people died as a result of the crash.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the crash happened in the 2600 block of West Madison Street just before 6:00 a.m.
An excerpt from the May 7, 2017 Chicago Tribune article (with video) titled “2 of 4 killed identified after CTA bus, car collide in Near West Side“:
Police said the driver of a Buick LeSabre was a 27-year-old man. As he drove west on Madison “at a high rate of speed,” police said, he lost control, and the car hit a parked car before it slammed into the bus.
The collision with the bus was a “head-on collision.” Accident scene photos appear to show the collision involved the front of the bus colliding with the Buick LeSabre. The car is shown to be extensively damaged.
Eight people were initially injured and hospitalized. The four people in the car died, and three people who were passengers in the bus as well as the bus driver suffered accident injuries considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
The Chicago Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is conducting the accident investigation.
Additional details regarding this fatal Chicago car-bus collision can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Tribune article mentioned above as well as the May 7 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “4 dead after CTA bus, car crash East Garfield Park.”
