There was a fatal vehicle accident on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Saturday morning in Des Plaines. The accident was a “chain-reaction” crash.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 10:00 a.m., when a Honda CRV “rear-ended” a Ford Winstar minivan that had stalled in traffic on southbound I-294 in Des Plaines.
A Volkswagen Tiguan then “rear-ended” the Honda minivan. At that point, the driver of the Honda exited the vehicle and was standing outside the minivan when a semi truck hit the Volkswagen, which was not occupied, the Honda, and the Honda’s driver.
The driver of the Honda was identified as Jeffery Komada, 54, of Des Plaines. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment of his accident injuries, where he was pronounced dead.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
