A driver fled the scene of an accident on Chicago’s South Side early Thursday (November 15, 2018) morning. The accident led to the deaths of two men.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 1:04 a.m. in the 7100 block of South State Street as a Ford Fusion was exiting the Dan Ryan Expressway.
An excerpt regarding the crash, from the November 15, 2018 NBC Chicago article (with accident scene photos and videos) titled “2 Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Chicago’s South Side: Police“:
Authorities said a white Ford Fusion was traveling northbound, exiting the expressway ramp onto State Street at a high rate of speed, when it collided in the intersection with an SUV traveling eastbound on 71st Street.
Jerome Clopton, the 35-year-old man driving the SUV and James Moore, his 42-year-old male passenger, were both taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
After the crash the driver of the Ford ran from the accident scene, leaving his car behind.
As seen in the accident scene photos, both the Ford Fusion and the SUV were heavily damaged in the collision.
Traveling at excessive speed is often a contributing factor to crashes. As discussed on the “Speed As An Accident Cause…” page, for many reasons driving at excessive speed not only increases the odds of crashing, but the higher speeds are likely to increase the seriousness of accident injuries that occur during an accident.
