There was a fatal car accident Wednesday (July 30, 2014) in Chicago’s Edgewater Beach neighborhood.
The accident happened at approximately 11:13 a.m., as a car, which allegedly was traveling at a high rate of speed, drove through a red light at Berwyn Avenue and Sheridan Road, and then swerved into a parking lane in order to pass a CTA bus that had stopped. The car then struck two people, as well as struck two parked cars, one of which then struck the CTA bus.
One of the two people struck died. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, a man identified as Frank Kiley, 71, of Chicago, died at the accident scene.
The driver of the car was identified as Vladimir Tsemakhman, 58, of Chicago. He was hospitalized with injuries. He has been charged with reckless homicide.
An excerpt from the August 1, 2014 Chicago Tribune article titled “Reckless homicide charges filed in fatal Edgewater Beach accident,” quoting Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Mack:
“The defendant made no effort to slow down or brake before striking the victims,” Mack said.
Four other people were also injured and hospitalized.
