Fatal Bicycling Accident Near Chicago’s Midway Airport

There was a fatal Chicago bicycling accident early Sunday morning (August 17, 2014) near Midway Airport.

According to Chicago Police, the bicyclist was riding east on 55th Street when a car turned left onto Central Avenue about 12:45 a.m., striking the bicyclist.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the bicyclist was identified as Gary Reyes, 44, of Park Forest. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

According to Chicago Police, the driver of the car, identified as Elizabeth Lara-Salas, 37, of Chicago, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The Chicago Police Major Accident Investigations Unit is investigating the collision.
