Fatal Bicycle Accident In Unincorporated Hampshire Township

There was a fatal bicycle accident Monday (May 18, 2015) involving a collision between the bicyclist and SUV near Hampshire.

According to the Kane County Sherriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Allen and Walker Roads in unincorporated Hampshire Township.

The initial investigation indicates that a Honda CR-V stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, then collided with the bicycle after the CR-V had progressed into the intersection.

The bicyclist was thrown from the bicycle during the accident, and was declared dead at the accident scene.

The bicyclist was identified as Dennis Jurs, 68, of  Hampshire.

The driver of the CR-V, identified as James Conners, 64, of DeKalb, was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin for treatment of his accident injuries.

At the time of the crash, Jurs was wearing a bicycle helmet.

Conners was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.

The accident remains under investigation.
