Accidents in which one vehicle crosses the center line, and subsequently collides with an oncoming vehicle, continue to be among the most serious Illinois traffic accidents. Often, these types of collisions are “head-on collisions” which for many reasons are highly physically traumatic and cause serious accident injuries. Often, such injuries result in fatalities.
There was a fatal Beach Park traffic accident early Friday (August 10, 2018) evening. The accident scene was in the vicinity of Green Bay Road and Nemesis Avenue and involved a vehicle crossing the center line before colliding with an oncoming vehicle.
According to information provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in a media release titled “Critical Beach Park Crash,” deputies responded to the accident scene at approximately 6:04 p.m.
An excerpt from the media release:
Preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Dodge Durango, driven by a 20-year-old male of Park City, was traveling northbound on Green Bay Rd. The male crossed the double-yellow center lane divider and entered the southbound lane of traffic. The Dodge Durango struck a southbound 2014 Kia Forte, driven by a 26-year-old female of Zion. Also in the Kia were two juveniles, age 6 and age 8.
The driver of the Dodge was injured, and those injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature. That driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of those accident injuries.
The driver of the Kia was injured, and sustained critical, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for medical treatment. The 8-year-old was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for treatment of accident injuries that were considered to be non-life-threatening injuries. The 6-year-old was initially transported to Condell, and then later flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he remains with critical injuries.
According to the August 13, 2018 Grayslake Patch article titled “Mom Dead, 2 Young Kids In Critical After Lake Co. Crash,” the driver of the Kia (later identified as Stephanie Rojas) died from her accident injuries on Sunday (August 12, 2018). She was the mother of the two children passengers in the Kia. Both of those children are in critical condition as of Monday (August 13, 2018) morning.
The accident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
