A driver died following a 3-car “chain-reaction” crash near Frankfort Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2017.
According to preliminary crash investigation findings from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the multi-vehicle crash happened at approximately 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Center Road and Pauling Road.
At that time, the driver of one car – a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu – failed to see the stop sign as the car was traveling eastbound on Pauling Road. As the Malibu continued through the intersection, it was struck on the driver’s side (possibly “t-boned”) by a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. The collision forced the Grand Marquis into the northbound lane, where it struck (in a “head-on collision”) a 2011 Cadillac SUV.
According to the Will County Coroner’s Office, the driver of the Grand Marquis (Charles R. Sharp, 57, of Peotone) died early Thursday morning in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
An excerpt from the March 9, 2017 Joliet Patch article titled “3-Car Wreck Claim’s 1 Man’s Life,” regarding the drivers when they were found at the accident scene:
All three drivers were responsive when deputies arrived, police said. Sharp had reportedly suffered extensive bruising to his arms, face and forehead.
Deputies spoke with Sharp at the hospital, police said, but Silver Cross staff told them he was bleeding internally and had to go into emergency surgery.
The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, identified as Donna J. Dust, 68, of Beecher, was also taken to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment of her accident injuries.
An excerpt from the March 9 The Herald-News article titled “Man dies after 3-vehicle crash near Frankfort“:
The driver of the SUV, a 66-year-old Manteno woman, was taken to Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, where she was treated for bruising to her head, neck and back, and released, according to police reports.
Donna Dust was ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign.
