There was a “hit & run” accident that injured two people, one fatally, in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood on Thursday (October 18, 2018) morning.
According to Chicago Police, the accident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. near 57th Street and Racine Avenue. At that time, a silver minivan that was driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Racine crossed over the oncoming lane as well as a bike lane, then drove on a sidewalk.
Various people were on the sidewalk at the time of the incident.
Two people were struck by the speeding minivan. One of the persons struck was a man aged 19 or 20 years old. The other person struck was a 42-year-old woman, later identified as Connie D. Mangrum. Both were taken to University of Chicago Hospital for treatment of their accident injuries.
Connie D. Magrum was declared dead at the hospital.
There are some witness accounts that indicate that for some reason this “hit & run” accident may have been intentional. However, the accident remains under investigation and the minivan’s driver has not yet been apprehended.
