“Drugged Driver” Accident In Riverside

On this site there have been various accidents discussed which have happened after a person drove a car after taking drugs.  As discussed in the December 28, 2016 post titled “Increase In ‘Drugged Driving’,” these types of “drugged driving” accidents have been increasing in frequency.

These “drugged driving” accidents have happened throughout the Chicago area.  As seen in the CBS Chicago article of March 31, 2017, titled “Man Arrested For Drugged Driving,” Riverside had 136 DUI arrests last year, of which 20 percent were for “drugged driving.”  The article discusses a March 29, 2017 single-vehicle crash in Riverside that is being attributed to drug use before driving.

A police officer responded to the crash at 6:50 p.m.  The crash happened at 40 E. Burlington St.

An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of April 2, 2017, titled “Man charged with drugged driving following crash in Riverside” concerning the accident and the driver of the car, Michael Mola, 60, of Oak Brook:

The investigation revealed that Mola had driven to Berwyn to visit a friend and snorted heroin with his friend’s adult daughter. Mola admitted to snorting the heroin and taking Vicodin that was not prescribed to him, police said.

During his drive home from Berwyn to Oak Brook, Mola told police he felt ill and light-headed, then drove off the roadway toward the sidewalk in Riverside. He conceded that was the last thing he remembered and was found with Vicodin in his pockets, police said.

Mola, who has no prior criminal history, was charged with drugged driving – heroin, possession of a controlled substance and several other traffic tickets related to the incident, police said. After receiving treatment, he was released into police custody later Wednesday night.

Additional details regarding this “drugged driving” accident can be seen in the CBS Chicago and Chicago Sun-Times articles mentioned above.
