There was a fatal crash involving a CTA bus that drove onto a Chicago sidewalk this afternoon (June 2, 2015.) The accident happened at approximately 5:50 p.m. in the 100 block of East Lake Street (at Michigan Avenue.)
The accident happened after the bus, for a currently unknown reason, jumped a curb and went onto the sidewalk. One pedestrian was struck as were four vehicles.
This bus crash led to the death of one woman, who has been identified as a 51-year-old woman who died after being taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of her accident injuries.
Eight other people were injured, one of them critically. The bus driver, said to be 48 years old, received minor injuries during the accident.
The Chicago Police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
