“Head-on collisions” are among the most serious types of vehicle accidents. As seen in many Chicago-area accidents of this type, these “head-on collisions” typically lead to vehicle occupants being seriously injured, and often fatalities result.
While there are many reasons as to why these “head-on crashes” occur – including when people drive in the wrong direction (i.e.”wrong-way drivers“) – typically these frontal collisions occur when one vehicle suddenly drifts or veers into the opposing lane of traffic. Should there be a vehicle properly driving in that lane, it is likely that a collision can result, in part because there can be very little reaction time before a collision occurs.
On Tuesday afternoon (February 5, 2019) there was a Des Plaines crash which occurred in which one car crossed into the opposing lane of traffic, and a collision occurred.
The fatal accident is discussed in the February 6, 2019 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Man, 57, killed in Des Plaines crash.” An excerpt regarding this fatal Des Plaines accident:
At 1:51 p.m., a red Infiniti was traveling south on Wolf Road when it crossed the Union Pacific railroad tracks near Wieboldt Drive, drifted into the northbound lanes of traffic and crashed into a red Honda CR-V, according to Des Plaines police. Witnesses reported that the crash was nearly a head-on collision.
The driver of the Honda was identified as Kais N. Shamaun, 57, of Des Plaines. He died shortly after the crash. A subsequent autopsy revealed his death was due to various accident injuries.
