The City of Chicago has settled a lawsuit from Richard Chang for $6.25 million. Chang was injured during a May 21, 2011 accident in which City of Chicago worker Dwight Washington, while intoxicated, drove his truck onto a sidewalk and ran into a crowd of pedestrians. The May 22, 2011 blog post titled “City Truck Collision Sends 8 To Hospital In Chicago, Illinois” provides further detail on that accident.
Chang suffered brain damage stemming from the injuries he sustained during the accident, and is said to have been unable to continue his job as a computer scientist.
He had to learn to walk and talk again after the accident.
Three additional lawsuits, encompassing four victims of the accident, are still pending against the City of Chicago.
