Hit-and-run accidents in Chicago and the greater Chicago area remain a significant issue. Often, those hit-and-run drivers fail to stop as they are intoxicated on either alcohol and/or drugs. Other times, hit-and-run drivers are speeding and/or driving recklessly, and they don’t want to stop as they fear the ramifications of being held at fault for their actions.
Hit-and-run accidents in which pedestrians are struck are especially notable. As seen in numerous recent incidents, these types of pedestrian accidents have led to fatalities.
On this site, hit-and-run accidents are discussed in the “hit & run” accidents category.
On Sunday evening (March 13, 2016) there was a hit-and-run accident in Cicero in which a woman and her 10-year-old goddaughter were struck.
According to a city spokesperson, the accident happened at approximately 5:15 p.m., as the woman and girl were crossing the street in the 5500 block of West Cermak Road. At that time they were struck by a silver sedan, which fled the scene after striking the pedestrians.
The woman, identified as Sonia Castrejon, 44, and the girl, Lizette Castrejon, were critically injured during the accident and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago for treatment of their accident injuries.
The driver of the car is described as a “heavy-set” Hispanic male who is bald, and has significant facial hair.
The silver sedan was damaged on the right side, and is missing its right headlight and side mirror.
Cicero Police are asking for those with information concerning the accident to contact them at (708) 652-2130.
