Traffic congestion can be measured in a number of ways, as can commute times. However one chooses to measure such traffic congestion, Chicago and the Chicago area ranks very highly in congestion and commute times.
A past post, that dated October 6, 2011 (“Chicago Area Ranked #2 In Nation For Worst Traffic Congestion“) highlighted the issue.
A new study also indicates that Chicago ranks highly for the longest commute times. This study is mentioned in the May 22, 2015 Business Insider article titled “10 cities in the U.S. with the longest commuting times,” in which Chicago is ranked second nationally.
The underlying study is from the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, which issued a press release regarding the study on May 27, 2015. The press release is titled “Getting to work: Cities with the longest commutes.”
Additional details can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Business Insider and University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute sources mentioned above.
