Many Chicago-area accidents have occurred when a driver attempts to elude police, resulting in a police chase.  The driver who is being chased by police often is doing so after committing a crime, and thus attempts to get away from police.  These attempts to “get away from police” often includes driving at very fast speeds and in a reckless fashion.

There was a “hit & run” accident Saturday (April 21, 2018) in Lincoln Park in which a person was struck by a SUV that was attempting to elude police during a police chase.  The pedestrian was injured and in critical condition.

There was a fatal “hit & run” accident Thursday (April 19, 2018) night in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.  The accident led to the death of a 56-year-old woman.

According to Chicago Police, the accident happened as a woman was crossing the street in the 3300 block of North Halsted Street at approximately 9:00 p.m.  At that time, she was struck by a red Jeep SUV.

There was a fatal “hit & run” accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Skokie on Monday (March 5, 2018) evening.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Kilpatrick Avenue.

“Hit & Run” accidents continue to be a problematical aspect of traffic safety in the Chicago metropolitan area.  On this site, accidents in which a driver flees the accident scene are summarized in the “Hit & Run” category.  While there are many reasons as to why a driver may want to leave an accident scene, one of the main reasons is that the driver does not want to be held accountable for the consequences resulting from the accident.  In many instances the driver who flees the accident scene is at fault for the accident.

There was a fatal “hit & run” accident that happened on September 18, 2017 on Interstate 294 (I-294) near Alsip.  The accident involved an Illinois Tollway worker, David Schwarz, 48, of Monee, being fatally struck by a semi truck.  At the time of the accident, Schwarz was pickup up debris in the southbound lane of I-294 near Cicero Avenue.

There was a fatal “hit & run” pedestrian accident early Sunday (June 18, 2017) morning in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.

According to Chicago Police, this fatal crash happened at approximately 1:30 a.m., as a man was crossing the street in the 2000 block of West Division Street.  At that time, the man was hit by a Toyota Camry that was reportedly speeding east on Division.  The driver of the Camry did not stop after the collision and fled the accident scene.

There was a “Hit & Run” accident Wednesday morning (February 1, 2017) in Morton Grove.  A house as well as three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle, after which the driver fled the accident scene.

According to police, the three people hit by the vehicle were a man and woman in their 20s as well as a 2-year-old child.
