There are many types of vehicle accidents. While fatal accidents involving joggers seem infrequent, there was an August 7, 2016 accident in which a car struck two joggers in Hillsboro. One of the joggers died at the accident scene.
According to Hillsboro Police, the accident happened on Sunday morning (August 7, 2016) in Hillsboro, near the south end of Glenn Shoals Lake at 6:18 a.m.
At that time, a motorist traveling eastbound on Glenn Shoals Drive struck two eastbound joggers just west of Lakewood Drive.
One of the joggers, identified as Jenna Hamm, 31, of Hillsboro, was declared dead at the accident scene by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. The other jogger, Heather Dalenberg-Reincke, 38, of Hillsboro was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her accident injuries. Those injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
The car was driven by Alan Logsdon, 33, of Litchfield.
An excerpt from the August 7, 2016 The Journal-News article titled “Jogger Dies Sunday On Lake Road“:
The driver reported no injuries and was taken into custody for aggravated driving under the influence and taken to Montgomery County Jail.
This fatal accident remains under investigation by the Hillsboro Police Department, the Illinois State Police (ISP) and Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
