There was a fatal Chicago bicycle accident Tuesday morning (August 16, 2016) in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood (some might call this the Goose Island neighborhood) in which a semi truck fatally struck a bicyclist.
According to Chicago Police, the bicycle accident happened at 8:15 a.m., as a bicyclist and semi truck were both traveling south in the 800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.
At that time, the semi truck crossed into the bike lane as it was attempting to make a right-hand turn. In doing so, the truck struck a bicyclist (i.e. a “right hook” accident) who was in the bike lane at the time. The bike was dragged under the semi during the accident.
The bicyclist was identified as Lisa Kuivinen, 20, of Rolling Meadows. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The truck driver was identified as a 37-year-old man.
