A terrible car accident in Chicago’s Austin community (West Side) claimed the lives of four women Saturday night.
The car in which the four were traveling hit a beam supporting the Green Line elevated track in the 4800 block of W. Lake Street.
The accident happened at approximately 11:55 p.m.
Three of the four women in the car died at the accident scene. The fourth woman, Ieshia Nelson, 21, of Chicago, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and shortly thereafter pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
While it is not known what exactly caused the accident, a statement from the Chicago Police indicated that the car was traveling at a “high rate of speed” when it ran into the elevated support beam, then hit a light pole.
The accident remains under investigation.
