Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a 2009 Honda Civic was westbound on I-80 at mile marker 137 when it lost control and drove into the center median, police said. The Honda, driven by Christopher Bannon, 27, struck the rear of a construction vehicle that was stationed at the median, police said.

Bannon and two passengers, Jenna Bianco, 21, and James Vacek, 22, died in the car accident. All three were from Crest Hill.

According to police, Bannon and Bianco were wearing seat belts; Vacek was not.

Investigators say weather did not play a role in the crash. Police are continuing to investigate if other factors played a role in the crash.
