Two December 2017 Fatal Cook County Pedestrian Accidents

As frequently discussed on this site, it is common for accidents in which a vehicle hits a person to result in serious, if not life-threatening, injuries.  As seen in the pedestrian accidents that are summarized on this site, in many instances when a person is hit by a vehicle it leads to a fatality.  Various aspects of pedestrian accidents, including both legal (lawsuits) and medical issues, is further discussed on the “Chicago Pedestrian Accidents” page.

There have been two recent fatal pedestrian accidents in Cook County.  The first happened in Des Plaines, on Miner Street in front of the Des Plaines train station, on Saturday night, December 16, 2017.  This accident was a “hit & run” accident in which a man was struck by a red SUV that then fled the accident scene.  The man struck, Henry Sinisterra, 18, of Rosemont, died from his accident injuries the next (Sunday) night.

An excerpt from the Daily Herald article of December 19, 2017 (“Rosemont man dies after hit-and-run crash in Des Plaines“) that discusses the fatal accident:

Witnesses told police Sinisterra was walking in the roadway before the fatal crash, and was nearly hit by other vehicles that had to maneuver out of his way.

The crash occurred near the same downtown crosswalk that’s been the site to other serious crashes in recent years. Two pedestrian crashes, one of them fatal, happened within hours of each other on July 23, 2015. Police have said installing flashing lights and eventually moving the bus stop nearby may increase safety.

The accident investigation is ongoing.  Those with information concerning this fatal crash are asked to call police at investigators at (847) 391-5400.

The second crash happened in Glenview, and involved a woman being fatally struck on Friday afternoon, December 22, 2017.  Details on this accident appear limited at this time.  An excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times article of December 23, 2017, titled “Woman fatally struck by vehicle in Glenview“:

Tasha Franklin, 43, was standing behind a vehicle stopped in the roadway shortly after 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Sanders Road, when she was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Sanders, according to Glenview police.

Franklin, of Northbrook, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of her accident injuries, where she later died.

Additional details concerning these two fatal Cook County accidents, as well as the additional information concerning pedestrian accident injuries, can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
