Pedestrian accidents continue to be a significant traffic safety concern, due to both the severity of the injuries (some fatal) these accidents typically involve, as well as the increase in such accidents. Various aspects of pedestrian accidents – including the types of accident injuries that typically occur as well as what you should do if you are hit by a vehicle – are further discussed on the “Chicago Pedestrian Accidents” page.
As seen in the pedestrian accidents that have been discussed on this site (in posts found under the “pedestrian accidents” category) such accidents in Chicago as well as in the greater Chicago area often happen while the pedestrians are walking in a crosswalk.
A 12-year-old boy was struck while walking in a crosswalk yesterday (April 25, 2017) in Wheeling. The pedestrian accident happened near Wheeling High School.
An excerpt regarding the accident, as seen in the April 26, 2017 Daily Herald article titled “Boy, 12, struck by vehicle near Wheeling High School“:
The boy was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Hintz Road and Sherwood Drive when a westbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old struck him about 3:20 p.m., Wheeling Deputy Chief Todd Wolff said Wednesday.
The boy was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of his accident injuries. He was in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the boy is 17 years old. Preliminary crash investigation findings indicate that the driver was neither impaired nor traveling at a high speed at the time of the accident.
The pedestrian accident remains under investigation.
Additional details and possible updates concerning this pedestrian accident can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Daily Herald article mentioned above as well as the April 26 Deerfield Patch article titled “Boy, 12, Hit by Car Near Wheeling High School.”
