Fatal Hit & Run Bicycle Accident In Des Plaines, Illinois

A bicyclist was fatally struck Monday night (July 13, 2015) in Des Plaines.  According to Des Plaines Police, this bicycle accident was a hit & run accident.

The bicyclist was found unresponsive on West Algonquin Road, near Pennsylvania Avenue.  He was identified as Jose Piancante Gomez, 25, of Des Plaines.  He died Tuesday night.

Des Plaines Police found debris at the accident scene that led them to identify a suspected driver of a SUV that struck Gomez.

The driver was identified as Daniel R. Wehr, 54, of Morton Grove.

An excerpt from the July 14, 2015 abc7chicago.com article titled “United Airlines Worker Charged In Des Plaines fatal Hit-And-Run“:

Wehr faces one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury/death accident, which is a felony.
