The pedestrian who was struck was identified as Andrew Smith, 41, of Chicago.  According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Smith was pronounced dead at 1:54 p.m.

An excerpt from the March 8 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “$500K Bond for man charged in crash that killed pedestrian on West Side“:

Harry Clemons, 35, has been charged with aggravated DUI involving a death, aggravated DUI resulting in bodily harm, failure to reduce speed, failure to exercise due care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and driving on a revoked license, according to Chicago Police.

The Chicago Tribune article of March 8, 2015, titled “Prosecutor:  Stoned motorist killed pedestrian, hurt daughter in crash” discusses the crash and events leading up to it, according to prosecutors.  Clemons was allegedly in a “drug-addled stupor” previous to the crash.

An excerpt from the article, describing Clemons’ actions prior to striking the pedestrian:

He turned onto Pulaski and sped the 2000 Cadillac Seville up to 65 mph, Hanichak said, and began jerking the wheel, causing the car to swerve.

Smith was crossing the street when Clemons struck him, according to Hanichak and court records.
