2013 Illinois DUI Arrest Statistics

On July 1, 2014 The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists of Schaumburg, Illinois published their 24th Annual DUI Arrest Survey. (pdf)

The survey covers DUI arrests for the year 2013. Nearly 700 Illinois police agencies were surveyed and 84% responded.

Notable excerpts from the Press Release include:

For the seventh consecutive year, the Rockford Police Department is first in the state in DUI arrests among municipal departments with 556 arrests for 2013. (Because of its size, Chicago is in its own category.)

In 2013, Naperville was a close second with 553 arrests, followed by Decatur (485), Springfield (410), Carol Stream (392), Elmhurst (300), Normal (279), Rock Island (274), Oak Lawn (262), and Aurora (256). “Of all the people who died in Illinois motor vehicle crashes, thirty-five percent lost their lives in crashes involving a drunk driver, that is more than 350 deaths each year,” said Rita Kreslin, Executive Director of AAIM. “Departments that make more DUI arrests and who have effective DUI enforcement in their communities are saving lives by preventing impaired driving crashes and crash fatalities.”

also:

Arrests made by the Chicago Police decreased by 10.5% in 2013 (3,395) compared to 2012 (3,795), Illinois State Police arrests increased by 28.8% in 2013 (9,302) compared to 2012 (7,220). The sheriff’s department reporting the most DUI arrests was Lake County (348), while Cook (306), Winnebago (295), Will (262) and DuPage (245) Counties round out the top five sheriff departments.

A detailed listing of survey results and participating departments can be found in the “2013 DUI Counts“, which includes statistics on a variety of Illinois municipal police departments’ DUI arrests.
