There was a fatal car accident early Saturday morning (June 21, 2014) in a construction zone on Chicago’s South Side.
This fatal car accident happened at approximately 4:17 a.m. in the 4900 block of South Western Avenue, when a minivan driving north on Western Avenue disregarded a construction barrier and drove into a construction site. In doing so, the minivan hit a construction worker and then crashed into a piece of construction equipment.
The construction worker was identified as a 58-year-old man. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, he was pronounced dead at the accident scene at 5:45 a.m.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the minivan’s driver, a 19-year-old, and two passengers, were all listed in serious-to-critical conditions and were taken to local hospitals.
Charges are pending against the minivan’s driver.
