Both during and after police chases, accidents often happen. Many times, the car being pursued is traveling at unsafe speeds (and perhaps in other reckless manners) in order to elude pursuit.
There was another instance of such a crash happening in the Chicago area on Friday evening, April 11, 2014.
A police pursuit began after Chicago Police saw shots being fired from someone in a vehicle in the 2300 block of West Division, at approximately 9:45 p.m. After the car failed to stop for police, a pursuit ensued, with the pursued car crashing into a large pole near Ashland and Grand Avenues.
There were four people in the car at the time of the crash. The driver, identified as Rigoberto Llera, 26, of Chicago, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, he died at 10:45 p.m.
According to Chicago Police, two female passengers, ages 23 and 26, were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition.
A 9-month-old child was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital.
