Additional Details Regarding High-Speed Fatal Edens Accident

In the March 30 post (“Fatal Car Crash On The Edens Near Touhy“) a March 30, 2014 fatal car accident on the Edens Expressway was summarized.

Subsequent to that post, additional information has come to light regarding the accident.

While the initial information indicated that at least one of the two cars was traveling “at a high rate of speed,” this new information includes information indicating the magnitude of the speeding as well as the driver of the speeding Audi. That driver has been identified as Jose L. Colon, 21, of Chicago. According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) he has been charged with murder, aggravated DUI and leaving the accident scene. The man in the second car, who was rear-ended by Colon’s Audi, has been identified as Samee Mohammed Ranginwala, 26. He died stemming from injuries sustained during the accident.

An excerpt from the April 2, 2014 Chicago Tribune article titled “Prosecutors: Driver in fatal Edens crash was drunk and racing at 100mph” :

Before the crash, four witnesses saw Colon racing with another dark-colored car, and one witness, who estimated Colon’s car was going more than 150, saw the car clip an Illinois Department of Transportation truck, prosecutors said.

The Audi changed lanes just north of Touhy and rear-ended the Geo, sending them both out of control and sending them into a ditch west of the highway, prosecutors said.

Additional details concerning this fatal Chicago car accident can be seen in a variety of media sources including the Chicago Tribune article mentioned above, as well as the April 1 CBS Chicago article titled “Driver Charged With Murder For Fatal Rear-End Crash On Edens.”
