Fatal “Chain Reaction” Crash In Plainfield, Illinois

Icy road conditions are being blamed for a fatal car crash this morning (January 25, 2014) in Plainfield, Illinois.

This multi-vehicle accident was a “chain reaction” crash that happened at approximately 10:30 a.m. along Interstate 55 West Frontage Road. According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened between Oak Tree Lane and Benet Lane, near Joliet.

The “chain reaction” accident happened as a 29-year-old Plainfield man lost control of his car, as he was braking to avoid another car that had entered the roadway from the forest preserve. The 29-year-old’s car slid on the road, which reportedly was icy, and went into oncoming traffic. It then collided “head on” with another car, said to be a Saturn.

The driver of the Saturn, identified as Deborah L. Huffer, 50, of Joliet, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that pulled out of the forest preserve was charged with failure to yield.
